about

"Burning Bridges" originated as a song raging against a failed relationship. The concept of burning my bridges seemed very attractive at the time and the early versions of this track reflected that.

A year or better later, I revisited the track and found that the concept of burning bridges still resonated, only now it was in regard to the things that would drag me down in my walk with God - relationships included. So the lyrics were rewritten and the song rearranged into what you hear now: a song with which I am much more content.

lyrics

it’s time to burn a bridge or two, there’s no return
relinquish all the flames consume and watch it burn
the country I have left behind is not my home
what I incinerate is all I called my own
and if I immolate this flesh, nothing is lost
before the tinder met the spark, I count the cost

burning bridges to the life that I once lived
leaving behind the things that You forgive
cutting off all my recourse to all but You
no other option but to see this journey through

now break the ties that bind to all my sinful past
look forward to foundations and love that will last
these bridges serve to the chasms that divide
and work a miracle: the change You’ve wrought inside
once bridges have been crossed and they their purpose served
so that I don’t turn back, please let my bridges burn
